Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The Plaimont cooperative presents a well-done wine that will satisfy your taste buds. Get ready to analyze its dark garnet color and its fragrances of red fruits. In mouth, a taste of sweet spices is allying with a mineral taste. It is an astounding and yet well-balanced mix. Tannins are enveloped, smooth and pleasurable.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

The technique called « bonde de côté », used to elaborate this wine means that the barrels are lightly turned on the side. Therefore the bunghole is immersed in the wine. It limits the entrance of oxygen and maintains ideal conditions of production.

Domain and appellation

  • Plaimont Producteurs

The cellars of Plaisance, Aignan and Saint Mont have gathered their savoir-faire, legacy, terroirs and initials to form the Plaimont Producteur cooperative in 1979. The cellars of Crouseilles and Condom have joined the group 20 years later.

    • Terroir: Nowadays, Plaimont Producteur represents 98% of the Saint Mont designation with 5 200 hectares of vines between the Gascogne, the Béarn, the Pyrennees and the Gers. Located on the town of Bouzon Gellenave, the Château de la Roque’s vineyard extends on 11 hectares.
    • Wine-making: A traditional process is used. A pre-fermentation maceration is made during 48 hours, using the technic of the pigeage that consists in mixing the marc at the top of the tank with the must that is at the bottom of it. An alcoholic fermentation with controlled temperature is done (25 days for the Tannat variety, 20 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon). After the assembly, the wine ages in French oak barrels (whose 30% are new) during 11 months.
