Our oenologists' opinion
Fruity and well-rounded
Garnet colour with ruby reflections. Nose opening on to roasted woody notes. Light leather. Then evolves with notes of fresh red fruit and vegetable, blackcurrant buds. Fleshy attack, hint of sweetness. Straightforward on the palate with red fruit and round tannins. Straightforward lengthening on notes of morello cherries and fresh spices.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Domain and appellation
It was in 1820 that Bernard Bouchard bought the site of the former Château de Beaune, a royal fortress sonstructed in the 15th century for King Louis XI.
Today 4 of 5 of the original towers of the castle remain on the outside, as well as parts of the rampart, and it has all been listed on the complementary list of historic monuments since 1937.
Buried deep, the underground cellars cross the whole property on both sides, and offer ideal and natural conditions for conservation of Bouchard Père & Fils wine.
Just 10 metres deeper, the wine flourishs sereneley; among their unique collection of close to 2000 bottles of the 19th century. A priceless historical heritage.
