Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

Purple colour with purple tints, clear and brilliant. Open nose with notes of cherry, blueberry and dark chocolate, a hint of aniseed. Supple, crisp attack, freshness, fruit, velvety tannins, good balance. The finish is sapid, full-bodied, racy, with forest fruits, a hint of thyme, and a beautiful satiny, fruity aftertaste.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

In the 18th century, the Charlet family were owners and wine merchants in Saint-Amour and Juliénas, on the border between Burgundy and Beaujolais.

Domain and appellation

  • Jacques Charlet

High perched, Chiroubles is the highest of the Beaujolais Crus, in terms of altitude. Victor Pulliat, one of its winegrowers, saved the vineyard from phylloxera by inventing the grafting technique. In the 18th century, the Charlet family were owners and wine merchants in Saint-Amour and Juliénas, on the border between Burgundy and Beaujolais. The deed of partnership between Jean and Joseph Charlet dated 20 October 1754 bears witness to this, as do various account books from the time. Charlet wines already had an excellent clientele at this time in the Paris region: we find in particular the delivery of a piece of wine to Monsieur Gabriel, King Louis XVI's first architect who worked on the Château de Versailles!
