Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Dark garnet colour with brick tints. Open nose with notes of candied cherry, black pepper and strawberry coulis, hint of candied pepper. Supple attack, long and fine tannins, tension, spicy and candied pepper character, good tension, hint of sweetness. Crisp, spicy, sapid finish, with crushed red fruit and spices.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

This magnificent stately home was founded in the 13th century by a natural son of Henry III of England, Edward Tyrgan.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU DE TIREGAND

Situated on the heights of the Pécharmant hillsides, this 405-hectare estate is listed as a Historic Monument. Château de Tiregand is owned by the heirs of the Countess François de Saint-Exupéry.

Terroir: The 43-hectare vineyard lies on a soil composed of sand, gravel and an iron gravel subsoil.
Viticulture: The estate favours the maturity of the grapes by short pruning, control of the yields of each parcel (disbudding and green harvesting), and leaf removal on each side of the row.
Vinification: An 8 to 10 day fermentation in vats, with temperature control, precedes a period of maceration of the wine "on the marc" of about 10 to 15 days. The wine is then matured for almost 12 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are single-vineyard barrels.
