Our oenologists' opinion
Its deep garnet colour brings out a nice open aroma of dark fruit, menthol, sweet spices and cocoa. In the mouth, this wine presents a nice balance and finesse. It is clear, fleshy, full-bodied with a finish on tight and velvety tannins. Beautiful wine.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation
Domaine Gérard Bertrand
A domain of international prestige, Gérard Bertrand contributes to the glorification off southern vineyards of France, the world's largest wine-growing area. Orbiting the finest terroirs of Languedoc Roussillon, the Gérard Bertrand wines are part of tradition and innovation.
- Terroir: Le Viala comes from a parcel of the Château Laville Bertrou, located on the Minervois-La Livinière. Acquired by Gérard Bertrand in 1997, the vineyards rest on a soil made up of a mosaic of pickled marl, calcareous sandstone, as well as compact limestone dating from the Eocene era.
- Viticulture: The maison seeks to preserve its soils with organic and biodynamic wine farming practices. The labels and certifications AB, Demeter and Terra Vitis reward these practices that respect the environment.
- Vinification: The Carignan and Syrah are whole berries and vinified separately by carbonic maceration, while the Grenache is de-stemmed and fermented in traditional maceration with temperature control. After the tanks and the malolactic fermentation, different varieties are blended and the wine is then aged for 12 months in new barrels.
