Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and crisp

White gold with green highlights. The nose is open, expressive and aromatic, with notes of blackcurrant buds, passion fruit, yuzu and citron, and a hint of spice. Acidic, pearly, greedy attack, with lively citrus notes and a hint of saltiness. Aromatic finish, hint of sweetness, good balance. Typical and long-lasting, citric and iodised.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Do you know ?

Phil and Chris Rose, owners of the Wairau River Estate, were among the first to plant vines in Marlborough back in 1978. They began by planting Müller Thurgau and Palamino, before quickly concentrating on Sauvignon Blanc.

Domain and appellation

  • Wairau River par Rose Family Estate

The wines produced by the estate are elegant and have the characteristic expression of their New Zealand roots. Marlborough is located on the north-east coast of New Zealand's South Island. It is the sunniest region in New Zealand, with almost 2,500 hours of sunshine a year. Marlborough has a maritime climate with long hot summers, cool nights and low rainfall. These are considered ideal conditions for vine growth, producing clean bunches with crisp, full-flavoured berries.
