Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

Garnet-red colour with black tints. The nose opens with boxwood, green leather, liquorice and a hint of wild raspberries. Well-balanced, frank, vinous and fairly full-bodied. This wine's character opens out as an extension of the notes on the nose, and the tannins are still a little young but will mellow. Good, fairly long finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Founded in 1931 by a dozen winegrowers keen to reduce their production costs, the Cave de Bourgueil is now made up of 55 farmers.

Domain and appellation

  • PHILIPPE DE VALOIS

Terroir : The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone and sandy-gravel soils, producing 320 hectares in the Bourgueil appellation and 20 hectares in the Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil appellation. Viticulture: Integrated viticulture is favoured in order to preserve the vines. Each grower is audited three times a year by the vineyard technician and the oenologist. The introduction of differentiated remuneration also encourages winegrowers to pamper their vines. Vinification: The wines are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, propeller-driven vats, temperature-controlled concrete vats and Ganimède vats, depending on their origin.
