Domain and appellation

  • J.M

At the foot of Mount Pelée, a luxuriant natural environment flourishes, bordered by two rivers: Roches and Macouba. At the end of the 18th century, Antoine Leroux-Préville acquired a 164-hectare estate in this enchanting location to create a sugar refinery. He named it 'Fonds-Préville'. Half a century later, in 1845, the estate was bought by Jean-Marie Martin, who gave the sugar factory a new lease of life by transforming it into a distillery. Shipped to Saint-Pierre, the rums bearing the initials 'J.M' enjoyed growing success. A few decades later, in 1912, the distillery was bought by Gustave Crassous de Médeuil. The two estates (Fonds-Préville and Bellevue) were then combined to form a single 400-hectare estate. Major improvements were made, helping to give J.M. rum its reputation.
