Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

Fragrances of stewed red fruits are released by the ruby-colored wine. Notes of liquorice are mixing with a touch of lilac. It will give you a frank length, full of freshness thanks to flavors of black fruits. Tannins are supple and are melting.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Thierry Germain

The domain is located in the South East of Saumur, in the towns of Chaintres, Varrains and Saumur.

    • Terroir: This terroir is located on a chalky sub-soil called “Tuffeau” and an alliance of sandy and clay-limestone territories that gives elegance, roundness and typicity to the wine. The average age of the vineyard to produce this vintage is 25 years.

    • Viticulture: Wine-makers are paying attention to the work of the vine. The harvest is done manually before the sorting.

    • Wine-making: A traditional method is adopted, using stainless steel tanks of a temperature between 16 to 22 degrees to extract the most aromas and fats. The end of fermentations is done when the temperature reaches 24 degrees.  The wine rests in tanks for 8 to 10 days. It ages inside of stainless steel or wood tanks on dregs without Sulphur during 3 to 4 months to keep the freshness of the wine.
