Our oenologists' opinion

Well-rounded

Its ruby color offers a nose on floral notes of peony, leather and sweet pepper. On the palate, this wine presents a supple and fruity attack with a nice grain of tannins. Soft and spicy finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

Mostly made with the tempranillo variety, the Rioja appellation has 4 different styles. The Rioja Vino or Joven is a young wine that can be appreciated early on. The Rioja Crianza ages for at least one year in oak barrels and is usually released after two years spent in the cellar. More costly, the Reserva and Gran Reserva respectively age for a minimum of 3 and 5 years prior to be released.

Domain and appellation

  • Bodega Solar Viejo

The domain of Bodega Solar Viejo has been founded in 1937 in the medieval city of Laguardi (Alava).

    • Terroir: The soil is composed of yellow clay and the terroir extends on the entire region of the Alta. It gives a well-balanced acidity to grapes and concentrated flavors.

    • Wine-making: The wine-grower Vanesa Insausti has been one of the first to use the sequential fermentation for young vines in Rioja and in Crianza. The results are vintages that have a perfumed and fruity style. The wine ages 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
