Domain and appellation
Cub. Collection Nicolas
With François Rabelais as an historic ambassador, the Chinon appellation knows how to magnify the cabernet franc, locally called “cabernet breton,” and make it shine at an international level. The vines are spread across 2300 hectares.
- Terroir: Established on side hills at the confluence of the Loire and the Vienne rivers, the vines lay on gravel and limestone-clay soils. The wine are fresh and can be appreciated early on when they originate from gravel soils and more complex with a high ageing potential when the grapes are issued from tuffeau soils, locally called “tuff.”
- Viticulture: Cabernet franc and chenin blanc are the main grape varieties.
- Vinification: Mostly made with 100% cabernet franc, the appellation allows a blend with cabernet sauvignon (10% limit). Those wines result from the collaboration between the maison Nicolas and local wine cellars, which are selected for their abilities to enhance their surrounding terroirs.
