Well-rounded

Fragrances of red peppers and caramel are released from this garnet-colored wine. In mouth, it is well-balanced. Tannins are soft. Wooded notes and a flavor of vanilla are perceptible.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

Contrary to common preconception, young wines need to be decanted with a carafe! This operation is necessary to air the wine. It brings roundness and complexity to it. Choose large and bulging carafes that offer a bigger area of oxygenation.
 

Domain and appellation

  • Château Cantemerle

    Located in the Haut-Médoc designation, on the thin and deep graves of the towns of Macau and Ludon, the Cantemerle vineyard is subjected to multiple influences. It produces complex, well-balanced and sophisticated wines, just like its exceptional terroir.

    • Terroir: The domain extends on 94 hectares planted and 91 hectares in production. The soil is made of sand and gravel. 60% of the grapes produced are cabernet sauvignon, 30 % Merlot, 6 % Cabernet Franc and 4 % Petit. The average age of the vines is 30 years old.
       
    • Viticulture: Harvests are done manually. Selective sorting are done on four sorting tables, each with four trier. The aim of the selecting sorting is to remove from the harvest the damaged grapes, dry leafs and any undesirable foreign body. This step is key one for quality.
       
    • Wine-making: The wine ages in separate batches, in barrels during 12 months. Then it is assembled and put in tanks for 4 months. A light montage is done. No filtration takes place before bottling.
