Our oenologists' opinion


With its fairly sustained garnet color, this wine offers you a pretty frank nose, open on aromas of pepper, vanilla, finely roasted, soft caramel. On the palate it presents a good balance, frank, medium body, fairly round and supple, the roasting notes blend, true style of second wine, easy, melted and pleasant.



Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

In 1787, Mr Fournier de la Chapelle, a high and powerful lord and adviser to the King, had the present Château, called "L'HOSPITAL", built in Portets, 24 km south of Bordeaux, in honour of his wife Anne-Catherine de l'Hospital. The neo-classical style building has been classified as a historical monument since August 1973. Alphonse de Lamartine stayed here several times and found inspiration for some of his famous works.

    The new owner is committed to renovating the property and restoring its wines to their former lustre, thanks to organic farming that reconnects with nature.

    •     Terroir & viticulture: Clayey gravel, limestone subsoil Surface area: 3ha, density 5,500 vines/ha, yield 48 hectolitres/ha.
    •     Vinification & Maturing : The grapes are destemmed and very lightly crushed before being put into thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. The vatting period lasts from 15 to 21 days depending on the grape varieties and the batches harvested.

    20% of the wine is matured in barrels and 80% in stainless steel vats to preserve the fruit.
