Domain and appellation

  • Cheval Noir

    Cheval Noir was acquired by the Mähler-Besse family in 1937 to complete their already prestigious domains such as Haut-Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Estèphe.

     

    • Terroir: The microclimate is particularly favorable to the grape Merlot, giving it »s name to the appellation. This 6 hectare domain is based on calcareous soils with grape varieties composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

     

    • Viticulture: Un granGreat care is taken to viticulture with green harvesting to ensure maximum ripeness of the fruit. The harvest is done manually with great care.

     

    • Wine-making: In 2008, the domain opened a new « chai » that refined the winemaking process so that the wine would properly represent the excellency of the terroir.
