Fruity and well-rounded

Its garnet color offers a nose of black cherries, candied fruit and hints of liquorice. On the palate, this wine has a nice balance, full-bodied, wrappe and with pretty ripe tannins. Finale with hints of kirsch, black cherries, then spices and pepper.



Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

In 2005, the gardens of Val Joanis Castle were labeled Remarkable Gardens by the Ministry of Culture and elected Garden of the Year 2008 by the Association of Journalists of Garden and Horticulture.

    Located in the Luberon, east of Avignon and north of Aix-en-Provence, Val Joanis Castle is on the site of an ancient Roman villa. Bought in 1977 by Jean-Louis Chancel, this area of 180 hectares of vineyards is now owned by Leonard Roozen.
    • Terroir: The « Réserve les Griottes » is the product of 3 plots of 17 hectares, located on the hills of Val Joanis. The vines evolve on a clay and limestone soil.


    • Vinification: The wine is aged in oak barrels, 1/3 in new barrels for a period of 12-18 months.
