Our oenologists' opinion
Fruity and well-rounded
Dark ruby colour. Nose opening up with aromas of violets and pepper, good balance on a rather fleshy wine, rather signed character but still raw tannins. Rather short finish.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Domain and appellation
Cave de Bourgueil
Founded in 1931 by a dozen winegrowers anxious to reduce their production costs, the Cave de Bourgueil is today made up of 55 farmers.
Terroir : The vineyards lie on clayey-limestone and sandy-gravelly soils to produce 320 hectares in the Bourgueil appellation and 20 hectares in the Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil appellation.
Viticulture: Sustainable agriculture is favoured in order to preserve the vines. Each grower is audited three times a year by the vineyard technician and the oenologist. The introduction of a differentiated remuneration system also encourages winegrowers to pamper their vines. The harvest is carried out on a plot by plot basis.
Vinification: The wines are vinified according to their origin in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, propeller vats, thermo-regulated concrete vats and Ganimède vats.
