Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and light

Its pale color with green highlights offers a frank nose, with notes of yellow fruit, apricot, quince and white flowers. In the mouth, it is balanced, nervous, sweet, straight and frank.

Green colored tint

Style ? Dry wines are acidic, lively and fresh while sweet wines are soft and feel round in the mouth.

Do you know ?

Cardinal de Bernis, Louis XV’s ambassador to the Pope, always required that his sacramental wine was a good Meursault. He justified this requirement by stating that he did not want the "Creator" to see it and wince during communion.

Domain and appellation

  • Vin de Messe moelleux

In France, priests express their preference for white wine. The regulations on sacramental wine state that it must come from grapes fermented without adding sugar (chaptalization) and without supplements that are not permitted by law. In general producers, like sacramental wine providers, are sworn to this practise.

Formerly, sacramental wine was usually red, but today it is predominantly white. The reason is essentially practical: white wine does not stain. Moelleux wine is used much more than dry white wine. As priests fast before celebrating mass, a round, sweet note is better on the stomach than a mineral wine with high acidity.
