Our oenologists' opinion
Its garnet color introduces a nose with a rich bouquet of roasted dark fruits with a hint of wooded notes and aromas of licorice. The palate is balanced, straight, rounded and characterized by spices with coated tannins.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Do you know ?
Mostly made with the tempranillo variety, the Rioja appellation has 4 different styles. The Rioja Vino or Joven is a young wine that can be appreciated early on. The Rioja Crianza ages for at least one year in oak barrels and is usually released after two years spent in the cellar. More costly, the Reserva and Gran Reserva respectively age for a minimum of 3 and 5 years prior to be released.
Domain and appellation
Marqués de Cáceres
Established in 1970 by Enrique Former as a wine cooperative, the Marqués de Cáceres maison has always been driven by high-end standards. Advised by some of the most prestigious wine figures such as Michel Rolland, the domain made the Rioja appellation thrive all around the world.
- Terroir: Located mostly in the Rioja Alta sub-region, the vineyards lay on clay and limestone soils with iron-rich subsoils for some parcels. The atlantic climate is mild.
- Viticulture: The harvests are handpicked and led plot-by-plot on vines that are 20 to 35 year-old in average.
- Vinification: Once they have arrived in the vat room, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The maceration lasts for 25 days at a 25-28°C temperature. The wine ages for 14 months in French oak barrels. At the cellar the wine ages for a minimum of 1 year in bottles.
- Tempranillo : 100%
