Our oenologists' opinion

Its ruby color offers a nice fruity nose of bigarreau, blueberry, cinnamon and pepper. On the palate, this wine is frank and fine with a finish on ripe tannins that blend and a fresh length on ginger and licorice.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

Even if the legend that the vineyard of Crozes Hermitage was founded in the thirteenth century by a weary knight of the Crusades sounds great, the truth is somewhat different. Indeed, the first traces of wine activity in this area date back to the Roman times!

Domain and appellation

  • Maison Delas

Founded in 1835, Delas was bought in 1977 by Deutz Champagnes. Today it belongs to Deutz and the Louis Roederer group. The Delas house operates an area of 30 hectares including 10 hectares of vineyards situated on the Hermitage appellation, 2 hectares of AOC St. Joseph and 18 hectares on A.O.C. Crozes-Hermitage.
    • Terroir: The plots are located on the terrace of Chassis and evolve on a granite floor.

    • Viticulture: Harvesting is done by hand at optimum ripeness. This wine is made from the assembly of grapes exclusively from the Domaine des Grands Chemins.

    • Vinification: The wine is traditionally performed with a live pre-fermentation cold maceration in open concrete tanks. The extraction is ensured by daily crushing and pumping for maceration 10 to 12 days. Finally, part of the wine is aged in vats and another in Burgundy barrels for a period of 14 months.
