Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Its amber colour with copper highlights brings out a very expressive, vegetal and malted aroma. It reveals beautiful aromas of flowers and ripe fruit (peach, apricot) and develops on the cake, cocoa powder and orange marmalade. As for the taste, this whisky is balanced, delicious and soft with the same orange flavour and extending to nuts and a delicate salty note. Its finish, long and herbaceous (menthol, chlorophyll), ends with a persistent rush of salt.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

In 1263, King Alexander III of Scotland was saved from certain death due to an attack of a deer, by Colin Fitzgerald, first ancestor of the clan of Mackenzies. In gratitude, he received a castle and nobility, represented by a royal deer. The bottles are adorned with a royal stag's head of representation, which is in reference to the family and bravery of this illutrious ancestor.

Domain and appellation

  • DALMORE

The Dalmore Distillery is based in Alness in the Highlands, place of origin of the native clan Mackenzies, the founding family of the distillery in 1839.

    • Manufacturing: The aging takes place in bourbon casks (50%) and Oloroso sherry casks (50%) for a period of 12 years. Once the whiskey is matured, different types of barrels are assembled and it rests for a further period of four months to allow the harmony of flavours.
