Do you know ?
The "Tafia" pirates existed in the Isles for centuries, when Father Labat in 1694 devised a more elaborate distillation of the alcohol from sugar canes. Following a few changes, this ancient remedy against fever became what we call today, rum.
Domain and appellation
Saint-James was created in 1765, in the highlands of Saint-Pierre, by Reverend Father Edmond Lefebure, Superior of the convent of the Brothers of Charity and skilled alchemist. In utmost secrecy, he created a high-quality white alcohol, a sugar cane eau de vie named "Guildive" or "Tafia". Since then, St. James has continued its Martinique expertise and authenticity by offering exceptional cane juice rums, regularly awarded at many international competitions.
- Distillery: The Saint-James distillery is located in Sainte-Marie, Martinique. It belongs to the Bardinet group.
- Production: Aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months, this rum offers floral aromas (carnation), spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.) and reveals typical notes from ageing (wood, vanilla and toasted hazelnut).
