Domain and appellation
Created in 1936, Kahlua liqueur is native to Mexico. It was introduced in the United State in the early 1960s by Jules Berman, an entrepreneur and art collector. In 1964, he sold the brand to Hiram Walker & Sons, but continued working in the company as head of development until 1970.
The coffee beans used are carefully selected: only the best 100% arabica beans are chosen. They are exclusively derived from crops in the Mexican state of Veracruz, which offers optimal altitude and climate conditions. The coffee beans are light, mixed with a subtle chocolate note that give the aroma and flavour typical of Kahlúa.
- Production: Once the beans are ripe, they are picked by hand, and then washed and dried in the sun. The coffee beans are then lightly roasted, just enough to develop a delicate flavour, and then coarsely crushed in order to preserve their natural sweetness. The ground coffee is immediately extracted with water. Freshly filtered, the coffee is then mixed with alcohol from cane sugar, vanilla and caramel.
