Domain and appellation
Founded in 1829, the prestigious Bollinger was born from the association of three men: Athanase Louis Emmanuel Hennequin - Count Villermont, Jacques Joseph Bollinger and Paul Renaudin. The name "Special Cuvée" by Bollinger exists since 1911. The date "1846" refers to the bottle design. Indeed, it is characterized by a broader base and a thinner neck, typical of the 1840s.
- Terroir: Located at Aÿ, converging point between three regions of the Champagne region (the Mountain of Reims, the Marne Valley and Côte des Blancs), this area of 160 hectares lies on clay-limestone and chalk gravel.
- Viticulture: The vineyard covers two thirds of its grape requirements. Environmentally, Bollinger is the first house to obtain, in 2014, the new certification "Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne."
- Vinification: The Special Cuvée is slightly dosed and aged in cellar at least 3 years. This aging, much longer than required by the rules of the appellation, allows a perfect development of aromas.
